This past weekend the Lotus Club kids team showed up and made a statement at the 2016 NABJJF Grand Canyon Open. With just 14 competitors the kids team captured the 1st place spot showing that with hard work and dedication, anything is possible. Throughout the entire tournament the thing that stood out the most was the teams support for each other. Just beyond the mat each time one of the team members was competing would be a group of teammates standing by, cheering on and supporting. It’s always great watching the team come together as a true family and congratulate one another in victory and support one another after a defeat.
After our kids made their statement, it was time for the adults to do their part. 17 year old Savannah Ellis Stepped up and fought in the adult divisions taking home quadruple gold. After Savannah our coaches decided they couldn’t be outdone so coach Sean Downie followed Savannah’s example and took home quadruple gold in the adult brown belt divisions, and coach Logan Jewell brought back a gold and 3 silvers also in the adult brown belt division. This makes 4 quadruple gold performances in the past 3 years for the Lotus Club Fight & Fitness team at the Grand Canyon Open. Our adult team ended up finishing 7th place overall with just 10 competitors with all adult competitors making the podium in their divisions. Well done team!
